How Our Kits Go Together
ReadyCanopy structures are designed for assembly, not fabrication. Components arrive cut to length and drilled at the factory, so installation is mostly lining up parts and tightening bolts. These guides give you the big-picture process for each product line. The exact bolt-by-bolt sequence, hardware counts, and dimensions are in the detailed instructions included with each kit and on the product page.

Installation Overview by Product
Each product line follows the same bolt-together logic, but the layout and anchoring differ. Here is what to expect for each. For exact part lists and torque specs, see the instructions in the box and the product page.
Carport Kits
Freestanding or cantilever aluminum carports anchor to a prepared pad. Typical sequence:
- Lay out and set the post positions per the included plan
- Anchor posts to the pad with the supplied hardware
- Bolt on rafters and the roof frame
- Fit the roof panels and trim
Detailed instructions are included with each kit.
Patio Cover Kits
Patio covers are usually attached to the house on one side and supported by posts on the other. Typical sequence:
- Mount the ledger/attachment beam to the wall framing
- Set and anchor the outer support posts
- Bolt the rafters between the wall beam and the front beam
- Install the cover panels and flashing
Wall attachment details vary by home; see the instructions included with each kit.
Awning Kits
Wall-mounted aluminum awnings are the most compact install and usually mount entirely to the building. Typical sequence:
- Mark the mounting line and locate solid wall framing
- Fix the wall brackets at the marked points
- Bolt the awning frame to the brackets
- Fit the cover and end trim
Fastener type depends on your wall material; see the product page and included instructions.
Solar Carport Kits
Solar carports use the same bolt-together aluminum frame as our standard carports, with a roof designed to carry solar panels. Typical sequence:
- Anchor posts and assemble the frame like a standard carport
- Install the panel mounting rails on the roof structure
- Mount and secure the solar panels to the rails
- Have a licensed electrician handle all wiring and grid connection
Electrical work should be done by a qualified pro. Frame details are in the instructions included with each kit.
General Tool Checklist
Because every kit is pre-cut, pre-drilled, and bolt-together, you do not need a welder or metal saw. This is the common hand-tool list for most installs. Always check the instructions included with your specific kit for the exact tools and fasteners it calls for.
- Cordless drill / impact driver
- Socket and wrench set
- Tape measure
- Level (and a long straightedge)
- Pencil or marker for layout
- Ladder or step stool
- Masonry / concrete drill bits (for pads)
- Safety glasses and work gloves
- String line and stakes for layout
Anchoring by Surface Type
A carport or patio cover is only as steady as what it sits on. The right anchoring depends on your surface. Here are general pointers; refer to your local code and the instructions included with each kit for the exact anchors and footing depth.
Concrete, gravel, or dirt — what changes
Concrete Pad
The most secure base. Posts bolt directly to a cured, level slab using the supplied anchors. Make sure the pad is thick and flat enough for your structure size.
Gravel
Not a finished anchor point on its own. Most installs set concrete footings under each post through the gravel, then anchor to those footings. Plan footings before assembly.
Dirt / Soil
Bare soil needs poured concrete footings for each post to hold the structure in wind. Dig, pour, and let footings cure before you start setting posts.
A Typical Install, Start to Finish
No matter which product line you choose, most bolt-together installs follow the same general flow. These are the common stages, not a substitute for the detailed instructions included with each kit.
- Check local requirementsConfirm whether your area requires a permit and what wind/snow loads apply. Your contractor or local building office can advise.
- Prepare the surfaceMake sure your pad or footings are cured, level, and the right size for the structure. Fix the base before you build on it.
- Unpack and check partsLay out the components and match them against the parts list in the box. Confirm nothing is missing or damaged before you begin.
- Set and anchor the postsPosition posts per the plan, get them plumb, and anchor them to the prepared base with the supplied hardware.
- Assemble the frameBolt rafters, beams, and braces together using the pre-drilled holes. Keep everything square and snug, then final-tighten.
- Install panels and trimFit the roof or cover panels, then add flashing and trim. Do a final check that every bolt is tight.

Installation Questions
Do I need to weld anything?
No. Every ReadyCanopy kit is bolt-together with no welding required. Parts arrive pre-cut and pre-drilled, so you assemble them with standard hand tools.
Are step-by-step instructions included?
Yes. Detailed instructions are included with each kit, and you can also review configuration details on the product page. The guides on this page are a general overview of the process.
Can one person install a kit?
It depends on the size of the structure. Smaller awnings and patio covers are often manageable, but larger carports are easier and safer with a helper for lifting and aligning the frame. Check the instructions included with each kit for guidance.
What surface do I need to install on?
A cured, level concrete pad is the most secure base. Gravel and dirt generally need poured concrete footings under each post. Follow your local code and the anchoring details in the instructions included with each kit.
Do I need a permit?
Permit rules vary by city and county, so we cannot say for certain for your address. Check with your local building department before you start. Your contractor can also confirm requirements and load ratings.
What tools will I need?
Most installs use common hand tools: a drill/impact driver, a socket and wrench set, a tape measure, and a level, plus masonry bits when anchoring to concrete. The exact tools and fasteners are listed in the instructions included with your specific kit.
How is a solar carport different to install?
The frame goes together the same bolt-together way as a standard carport. The added steps are mounting the panel rails and the solar panels. All electrical wiring and grid connection should be handled by a licensed electrician.
What warranty do the kits carry?
Our kits come with a 10-year warranty. For the full terms and what is covered, see the product page or contact us.
